GM Sutherland Passed Away

All Europe Taekwon-Do Federation would like to inform with great sadness that today morning, on September 17th, 2019, Grand Master Sheena Sutherland passed away. 

GM Sheena Sutherland was the AETF Treasurer in the term 2002-2004 and the Member of the AETF Board of Directors in the term 2004-2008. She was the founder of United Kingdom Tae Kwon-Do Federation in 1987, ITF Scotland in 1997 and was also President of it. In 2014 she was a founding member of Scottish Taekwon-Do Council. She was also a member of AETF Umpire Committee in 1993.

In 1994 she was awarded an Outstanding Instructor Medal presented by General Choi Hong Hi. 

She began training in Tae Kwon-Do on  April  9th 1974 and after three years, in March 1977 was promoted to Black belt  1st Degree in Glasgow, Scotland, the UK under the then Master Rhee 7th degree. 

In 2007 she became the first woman in Taekwon-do ITF who become an Eighth Degree Master. We informed about that fact in our news available under the link: https://old.itfeurope.org/NL2008-02-06.html

Over many years she was umpiring on the most important Taekwon-Do events such as World and European Championships. 

On the 13th July, 2017 Master Sutherland was promoted to Grand Master Title by Grand Master Charles Sereff, IX Degree.

It is a huge loss for the whole Taekwon-Do community in Europe and the world over. We remain in very deep sorrow together with all Her family and relatives.

On behalf of the Board of All Europe Taekwon-Do Federation, we wish to express our deepest and most sincere commiserations and great sorrow over the passing away of a person who made a tremendous contribution to the development of Taekwon-Do in Scotland and in Europe. 

There will be no funeral or any form of acknowledgement.
